YouTube has announced a major new feature called custom feeds that allows users to describe the exact type of videos they want to watch instead of relying purely on automated suggestions
According to an announcement post, the tool is powered by Google's Gemini AI.
You can be incredibly detailed in your requests, instructing the artificial intelligence on what to feature, prioritise, or completely exclude.
You can ask for a YouTube feed of quick tech reviews for your commute, or calming aesthetic vlogs to help you unwind
Once generated, this highly personalised collection is pinned directly to the top of your homepage in a dedicated tab.
The classic recommendation feed is not going anywhere, meaning you can easily switch between your custom and default views.
YouTube's vice president of product management for viewer AI, Emily Moxley, said the goal is to bring YouTube videos to everyone's fingertips.
"There's over 20 billion videos in the YouTube corpus, so you're always one search away from a treasure trove of topics," Moxley added, according to Tech Crunch.
Support for creating multiple custom feeds will roll out across web and mobile platforms starting next month.
For now, the feature is only available to YouTube users in the US
This addition mirrors similar algorithmic tools recently launched by rival platforms, including Bluesky, Instagram, and Spotify.
