Looks like we're flying back to the Seven Kingdoms?

A full-length Game Of Thrones feature film is officially in the works.

The popular television series, based on fantasy books by George R.R. Martin, was a cultural phenomenon that ran for eight seasons between 2011 and 2019, following noble families vying for the Iron Throne.

Despite being marred by what fans brand a disappointing final season with a divisive ending — the show led to spin-offs, including prequel House of the Dragon, which focuses on the civil war between the Targaryens, known as the Dance of the Dragons.

Details of the newly-announced movie are scarce — the plot, characters, and even the time period remain unknown for the time being. There isn't even a director, writer, or cast attached to the newly announced project.

While we await further details, it's impossible not to indulge in a bit of wishful thinking. Will the movie pick up from where things left off with Arya Stark, who made her journey west of Westeros, or will it offer a completely new perspective, focusing on lesser-known characters and regions?

Speaking of lesser-known characters, Game of Thrones boasts a large ensemble of individuals whose stories were as interesting as Daenerys' fight for the Iron Throne

If we're revisiting The World of Ice & Fire, these four underrated Game of Thrones characters definitely deserve a standalone movie about their adventures.

Brienne of Tarth: Arguably the most kick-ass character in the entire series, Brienne was a skilled warrior and loyal knight to Renly Baratheon. She faced ridicule and rejection for her unconventional choices, but never gave up on her ideals. A movie focused on Brienne could delve deeper into her past and her relationship with Renly.

It's time for Brienne to shine!

Melisandre: The enigmatic Red Priestess served as an advisor to Stannis Baratheon during his bid for the Iron Throne, but her (ahem) side quests as a Red Priestess were shocking to say the least. Besides birthing a shadow demon and reviving Jon Snow, her final moments revealed that she was actually an elderly woman, who concealed her age with a ruby necklace.

This leaves plenty of reasons to explore her backstory, including how and why she came to be such a devoted believer of the Lord of Light.

Olenna Tyrell: We may have said goodbye to the no-nonsense Tyrell and actress Diana Rigg (who passed away in 2020) since Game of Thrones concluded, but the Lady of Thorns' strategic mind and sharp sass established her as a fan favourite.

She had an entire fascinating life before the events of Game of Thrones. A natural political mastermind, it would be interesting to see a younger Olenna learning to navigate courts with the same cunning and wit we would eventually come to love, outmaneuvering rivals and forging alliances.

Oberyn Martell: Any reason to bring back Pedro Pascal is a welcome one! Though it's quite impossible for the actor to portray the Red Viper of Dorne again, a film featuring young Oberyn as he sets out for revenge against the Lannisters, particularly Gregor Clegane, would be one to watch!

In the meantime, the next Game of Thrones-related series coming to screens is A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the upcoming HBO series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have six episode and adapts George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.

This prequel chronicles the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, a young and courageous hedge knight, and his squire, Egg, who is secretly a Targaryen prince. Their journey unfolds in a Westeros where Targaryens still rule and dragons roam the skies.

This prequel is set to be released in 2025.
