After almost 27 years since their initial debut, Internet Explorer has finally shut down as of 15 June 2022
Announcing the decision in a blog post last year, Microsoft noted that they would be retiring the browser search engine on 15 June, and they did. Such a move comes after the company began operations in August 1995.
After its launch, Internet Explorer became one of the most popular modes of accessing the Internet. While the browser had moved to a system that was practically unrecognisable to its initial popularity, multiple business ventures all around the world continued and maintained the usage of this modern-day digital relic for internal operations.
Countering such a deficit, Microsoft has added a new feature in the form of Microsoft Edge, which allows a reformed version of Internet Explorer to continue functioning.
In the blog post, they stated, "Microsoft Edge has Internet Explorer mode (IE mode) build in, so you can access those legacy Internet Explorer-based websites and applications straight from Microsoft Edge."

Nonetheless, this truly marks the end of an era for one of the most popular web search engines that has ever existed, with the Microsoft team now moving their efforts towards developing a faster, more secure, and more modern browsing experience in the form of Microsoft Edge.
As the date of retirement drew to a close (and even after the browser closed), social media took a brief trip down memory lane to express their feelings:
And the memes started flooding in from every corner of the planet:
