Malaysians entering Thailand through its land borders will no longer need to fill out arrival and departure cards or T.M.6 forms

Currently, foreign travellers driving into Thailand are required to complete a T.M.6 form, which they must retain until exiting the country to avoid hefty fines from Thai immigration.

However, the Thai government plans to make travelling into the country easier and more convenient for Malaysians.

Last year, Thailand conducted a six-month trial, during which Malaysian tourists were exempted from submitting the T.M.6 form when crossing the border through the Sadao checkpoint in Songkhla.

The trial proved successful, with the number of Malaysian tourists visiting Thailand via the checkpoint tripling from 10,000 to 30,000 during the weekends, the New Straits Times reported.

Following this, the Thai government will exempt the T.M.6 requirement at all land borders with Malaysia

In 2023, Thailand received 28 million foreign visitors, with Malaysians being the most frequent visitors, making up about 16% of that figure.

It's unclear when exactly this exemption will come into effect.

Similarly, Singapore will make clearing immigration easier with the help of QR codes:

Travellers need to make sure they have at least 15,000 baht in hand before entering Thailand:
