A Malaysian's social media post, in which he revealed he paid RM11 for a roti telur at a tourist destination, recently went viral, leaving netizens shocked at the price
In an interview with SAYS, car salesperson Hairil Aien said he is currently on a seven-day trip, traveling from Shah Alam, Selangor, to Gerik, Perak, and Melaka, among other destinations.
On Monday, 26 December, he had breakfast at a restaurant located at a popular tourist attraction on the borders of Selangor and Pahang.
He ordered a plain nasi lemak, a roti telur, two roti canai, and two beverages — a meal for two that normally does not cost more than RM20 at a mamak
However, Hairil's bill totalled up to RM45, with the roti telur costing RM11 per piece.
"Roti made in the clouds," Hairil said in jest, referring to the popular hilly holiday destination he was at
He told SAYS that he was not surprised by the prices at the restaurant, noting that prices on touristy islands tend to be even higher.
He said the roti canai and roti telur he had were delicious and bigger than the usual ones he had at mamak restaurants.
At the time of writing, Hairil's post about his breakfast has garnered over a hundred comments
"So expensive. RM11 for roti telur?"wrote a netizen, expressing their shock, while another jokingly replied that the restaurant must have used premium Omega eggs.
"The price bukan biasa biasa (is not normal)," a Facebook user wrote.
A person teasingly asked, "A roti makes you full or a roti for the God?"
