In a heartwarming tale that bridges the digital and real worlds, a Malaysian couple has gotten married after first meeting on the well-loved online game, MapleStory, all the way back in 2008

The bride, Jolyn, 28, from Sarawak, shared the happy news in the Asian community Facebook group, Subtle Asian Traits, capturing the hearts of many who also played the massively popular online game.

Speaking to SAYS, Jolyn fondly recalled her first encounter with her now-husband, Kennedy, 30, who is from Sabah.

"I started playing MapleStory in 2008 when the Fornax world was just released.

"As a noob, I randomly asked a player in a Perion hunting map about job advancement and how to get a black Fornax bandana, which was a level 50 event gift.

"That random player turned out to be my husband now!" she shared with SAYS, brimming with nostalgia.

Despite the fact that they met virtually 16 years ago, it wasn't until December 2019 that they only began meeting and dating in real life.

The couple finally tied the knot on 10 September this year.

"We call it destiny," Jolyn said, reflecting on their journey.

"We never thought we would become a couple as we come from different states, different races, and different religions.

"But fate brought us together. We're now officially husband and wife!" she shared, adding that she is a Chinese Buddhist, while her husband is a Kadazan Christian.

With a touch of humour, Jolyn also added that they have never gotten married in-game, but she would love it if MapleStory would ever sponsor their love story.

"Hint hint. But thank you so much, MapleStory!" she said.

The comments section was filled with netizens congratulating the couple on their wedding after their unlikely meet-cute
