[PHOTOS] 30-Year-Old House Gets Modern Makeover Into Beautiful Minimalist Home

It even has a rooftop dipping pool overlooking the KL city skyline!

An old rundown house in Kuala Lumpur was recently given a new lease of life

Situated on a hillside with an amazing view of the city skyline, local architect Fabian Tan decided to turn a typical 30-year-old terrace house into a beautifully modern, minimalist dream home.

The 2,200sqft house was formerly unremarkable — it had a long driveway, too many walls, and dark interiors.

So, Tan created space and found a fresh aesthetic for the new home

The architect told SAYS that he designed the house with a young couple in mind.

"The brief was to accommodate a place that will provide a calm, simple lifestyle," he said.

Tan devised a design strategy on the idea of 'extensions'

He said he altered and extended parts of the house, from the courtyard to the living room, to give it many wide open areas and garden spaces.

With the floor-to-ceiling windows and countless skylights, these long stretches of indoor space allows for an abundance of fresh air and natural light to go through the house.

He also gave the bedrooms on the first floor a sense of extension by adding windows through the walls

Not wasting any space, Tan also made an extra study loft under the roof

It was an unused floor slab where an old water tank sat on.

However, our favourite spot of all has to be the 'hidden' open deck on the rooftop

With a dipping pool against the backdrop of the KL city skyline, the deck cannot be seen from street view and makes an ideal place for a barbecue or to hangout with friends.
