Inspector Hazrul Hizham Ghazali was today, 30 April, charged with eight counts of rape and an attempt to molest two women in a Petaling Jaya hotel during an incident that happened between 10 and 11 April

New Straits Times reported that among the charges that were read to him before Sessions Court judge Norshila Kamaruddin, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) officer is alleged to have raped two women in two different rooms at a boutique hotel between 12.30am and 11am on 11 April.

The two women, identified as Mongolian nationals, are aged between 20 and 36.

The offence falls under Section 376(2)(f) of the Penal Code for rape, which covers the offence of raping a woman "with her consent, when the consent is obtained by using his position of authority over her".

Hazrul Hisham's position as a senior police officer who was attached to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters was taken into account when the charges were read out to him.

The total charges indicted against Hazrul Hisham come up to nine

Among the total charges, eight counts of rape are divided between six counts for the first victim, aged 20, and two counts for the second victim, aged 36.

The ninth charge is about him allegedly using criminal force on one of the victims with the intent to outrage her modesty near a roadblock at the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) on the same day.

If convicted, he could be jailed for a term of between 10 and 30 years as well as whipping.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges

He was reportedly calm and nodded in understanding inside the dock during the entire proceedings.

While deputy public prosecutor (DPP) Mohd Asnawi Abu Hanipah asked the judge to not grant bail as there was a high tendency for the accused to harass witnesses, judge Norshila Kamaruddin allowed Hazrul to post bail of RM27,000 with one surety for all rape and molest charges.

The judge has set 2 June for next case mention.
