The father of Yap Xin Yuan, the murder victim whose decomposed body was found in Banting, was seen arriving by himself at the Banting Hospital morgue today, 3 January, to claim his daughter's remains

I'm here today to bring my daughter home and accompany her on her final journey.

He told reporters waiting outside that he and his wife have three daughters, and the 15-year-old deceased was their eldest

Expressing deep sorrow, the grieving father said that it was difficult to accept his daughter's death, especially after seeing her disfigured remains this morning, China Press reported.

He said that he was unable to recognise her face when claiming the body.

"Now that my daughter has passed, my family can do nothing but helplessly accept this cruel fact," he said, adding that all arrangements for her final rites were entrusted to a funeral service provider.

Her remains will be sent to a Cheras crematorium for cremation.
