Era FM's Operator Fined RM250,000 For Uploading Offensive Content On Thaipusam Ritual
However, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has decided not to suspend the operator's broadcasting licence.
The operator of Era FM, Maestra Broadcast Sdn Bhd, has been fined RM250,000 for uploading an offensive video mocking the Thaipusam kavadi ritual
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) fined the company after receiving approval from the Attorney-General's Chambers.
The fine was issued under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (as amended on 11 February 2025) for uploading offensive content on Era FM's official TikTok account.
MCMC, in a statement today, 11 March, explained that it decided not to suspend Maestra Broadcast's broadcasting license after reviewing the company's appeal against the suspension notice issued on 7 March.
The commission's decision considered the arguments presented in the appeal, the remedial actions taken by the licensee, and the official apology from the parties involved.
MCMC also decided against the suspension after considering its impact on Melody and Mix FM, which also operate under the same licence.
