Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has clarified that the government did not award a project to Asia Mobiliti, a company co-founded by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh's husband, Ramachandran Muniandy

According to the New Straits Times, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said in a cabinet meeting yesterday, 29 May, that Asia Mobiliti had only provided the "proof of concept" for the Selangor Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) pilot project.

"The prime minister has informed us about the issue of Asia Mobiliti, which has completed the proof of concept in Selangor.

"He also reminded the cabinet that the licence held by the company was issued by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), where no contracts have been awarded yet.

"The prime minister also said the authorities would conduct an investigation [on the matter] if there are any reports lodged with the authorities," he said on Wednesday.

The Star reported that Fahmi's clarification aligns with Asia Mobiliti's statement, stressing that the firm was only given a nine-month contract to prove its capabilities of running the DRT project.

Fahmi's statement comes after politicians accused Yeoh of nepotism following the revelation that her husband's company, Asia Mobiliti, was appointed as a DRT service provider in Selangor

It is reported that two companies — Asia Mobiliti and Badan Bas Coach — were appointed as the service operators of the DRT pilot project.

Anwar had on Tuesday, 28 May, said he would leave it to the relevant authorities to investigate Asia Mobiliti.

However, it was reported on the same day that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Tan Sri Azam Baki is prepared to inform the prime minister that "there is nothing for me to investigate", reported FMT.

The Selangor DRT project aims to offer affordable last-mile solutions to the public, providing transportation between on-demand transit zones and popular locations.

According to Malay Mail, the Selangor state government announced the appointment of Asia Mobiliti and the second DRT provider, Badan Bas Coach, in June 2023.

The Selangor Mobiliti brand logo and its service coverage zone were unveiled during the Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention in October 2023.
