KL & Petaling Now In METMalaysia's Level 1 Heatwave Warning

It warned that temperatures have been between 35°C and 37°C.

Kuala Lumpur and Petaling are the latest areas to join Malaysian Meteorological Department's (METMalaysia) Level 1 heatwave warnings

In a hot weather update by METMalaysia on Thursday, 29 February, it said a total of 23 areas in the country are now under the Level 1 heatwave alert.

The areas namely are: the entire state of Perlis; Pulau Langkawi, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Sik, Yan, Pendang, and Baling in Kedah; Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, and the Northeast of Penang; Kuala Kangsar in Perak; Petaling and Sepang in Selangor; as well as Kuala Lumpur.

Beaufort in Sabah and Limbang in Sarawak are also under the Level 1 heatwave alert at the moment.

Pokok Sena in Kedah is the only area under a Level 2 heatwave alert in Malaysia, having recorded temperatures of over 37°C

A Level 1 alert is issued when temperatures at a location are between 35°C and 37°C for three consecutive days.

Level 2 alerts are issued when daily temperatures hover between 37°C and 40°C for three consecutive days.

The highest warning, Level 3, is issued when temperatures exceed 40°C for three consecutive days.

METMalaysia had earlier warned that this hot and dry weather is expected to last until the end of March

Its director-general, Muhammad Helmi Abdullah, had advised the public to limit their time outdoors to avoid being overexposed to the heat and the lack of rain.
