M'sian Who Makes RM1,500 Is Pressured By Parents To Buy A Honda So They Can Be Proud

A Malaysian has taken to a popular confession forum on Twitter to share their plight after their parents pressured them to buy a Honda vehicle as a status symbol for a working adult
Writing a direct message to @ConfessTweetMY, a Twitter page dedicated to curating confessions from the public, the anonymous person said they are faced with a problem at a crossroads in life.
"With a salary of RM1,500 (a month), my parents always insist that I buy a Honda," they said.
"It's a dream car, they said. But I know I can't (afford it)."
They continued that their mother is a housewife, while their father is unemployed after he got sick
"Every month, we siblings will give money to our parents because they have no income," the person shared.
"I'm so sad because (my parents) always talk about other people's children who are successful. One day, I (asked them) why can't we live a simple life and make do with what we have?"
The person wished that more parents out there would pray for their children to get better jobs instead of saying, "When do you want to buy a Honda" or "When will you find another job so you'll be able to afford a Honda".
At the time of writing, the tweet has gone viral with almost one million views and 1,600 likes
"This is the father and mother's wish, but they could not get it. So they hope their children can achieve it. Sad," lamented a Twitter user.
"Sometimes mothers and fathers expect children to give them a luxurious lifestyle because they brought them up even though they were not able to give a luxurious lifestyle for their children," said a netizen, adding, "Then, they expect a child who just started working to give them everything."
"My parents were like this in the past. They told me to buy a Honda Jazz. Alhamdulillah, (I've owned one for) three years now. But it was a struggle. I couldn't shop for myself and couldn't give (my parents) money," shared another Twitter user.
