According to Lishalliny in an Instagram post, the costume is inspired by an old folk song and dance from Terengganu called the Seven Ancient Princesses of Ulek Mayang

The ensemble was designed by local bridal boutique, Aldrin's Artistry, and is based on a tale about a fisherman whose soul was stolen by a sea princess who fell in love with him.

The fisherman's soul and health was later restored with the help of a bomoh, who then confronted the sea princess and her six sisters.

Lishalliny portrayed the bomoh in black and gold.

Hailing from Shah Alam, Selangor, Lishalliny said she was so proud to be able to showcase Malaysian culture at the pageant.

"Malaysia is a country rich with cultural diversity, being able to represent Malaysia on the Miss Grand stage was an honour!" she wrote on Instagram.

With the segment win, Lishalliny also placed an overall top 20 out of 61 contestants in the pageant this year

Although Miss Grand Vietnam Tien Thuc Thuy Nguyen took the crown, Lishalliny impressed judges and social media users alike in the other rounds, such as the evening gown and swimsuit segments.

According to Miss Grand International's Facebook page, she also placed top five in the Miss Popular category.
