A construction worker was sentenced to five months in prison and fined RM2,000 by the Kuala Lumper Magistrate's Court today, 31 January, for sending rape and death threats to Dr Jezamine Lim, the ex-wife and manager of actor-comedian Harith Iskander

Magistrate S Mageswary handed down the sentence after the accused, Izzuddin Md Salim, 30, pleaded guilty to the charge as soon as it was read to him, reported the New Straits Times.

The court also ordered that his prison term commence from the date of his arrest on 24 January, and if he fails to pay the fine, Izzuddin will serve an additional one-month jail term.

He had sent the threats to Jezamine over WhatsApp

According to the charge sheet, Izzuddin had sent a WhatsApp message to Jezamine, containing a picture of her daughter and threatening words that implied he would commit rape and murder.

He warned Jezamine that "I'm after your daughter" and that "police will protect you but police won't protect your daughter". It caused Jezamine, who is also Harith's manager, to fear for her family's safety.

She received the message on 23 January at 8.50am while she was at a restaurant.

During his plea, Izzuddin claimed, "I only intended to play with Harith Iskander’s emotions, I had no other intention... I apologise to the victim's family."

The offence was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Following the threats, the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS cancelled Harith's scheduled comedy performance last week

In a statement, Jezamine said the decision was made in consultation with DFP management.

She added that Harith was deeply disappointed by the cancellation as extensive preparations had been made over several months.

The threats are believed to have been sent after Harith posted about the topic of ham on social media, which sparked various reactions from followers, including allegations that it was insulting to Islam.
