The Health Ministry (MOH) has issued a reminder urging the public against using yellow gloves when preparing food

In a post on X, the ministry said yellow gloves are only suitable for cleaning and janitorial work, emphasising that they should not be used for handling food.

"When it comes to food handling, nitrile or powder-free gloves are the safest because they do not leave behind dirt residue. Even then, these gloves should only be used once to avoid cross-contamination," said MOH in the post.

The ministry said this in response to a TikTok video, in which an individual is seen preparing food using a pair of yellow gloves

The five-minute video, which has garnered over two million views, shows a woman preparing a mixture used as a dipping sauce to complement local dishes.

The MOH also urged food and beverage operators in Malaysia to undergo its Food Safety and Quality course, a training programme that offers certification for proper food handling and hygiene.

"[Food] industry players that have been certified may display this certification on their products," the ministry stated in its post.

MOH's reminder, which has attracted almost three million views, was well-received by netizens

"There are many people who need to be educated on proper food handling. It should be made compulsory for everyone in the food industry to undergo the relevant training courses to prevent untoward incidents from occurring," said one netizen.

Meanwhile, another netizen listed out the various kinds of gloves and their specific uses:
