Malaysian Muslim Solidarity (MUIS) has urged authorities to cancel Coldplay's upcoming concert in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur on 22 November

MUIS chairman, Datuk Zamri Hashim, released an official statement on the Jabatan Mufti Negeri Perak Facebook page yesterday, 15 November, stating that it is insensitive to hold such an event amidst the ongoing crisis in Palestine.

"MUIS urges the authorities to consider cancelling this concert out of respect for our brothers in Palestine, where more than 11,000 lives have been lost due to bombings and attacks," he said.

Zamri called on all Muslims to refrain from attending the concert next week and instead prioritise showing solidarity for those impacted by the crisis in Palestine

He said the ignorant attitude towards what is happening in Palestine is a sin of neglect that will be questioned later.

"Allowing a band that has shown support for the LGBTQ community — during a time of war where thousands of Muslim lives have been claimed — goes against the religious values and brotherhood among Muslims," he said.

He also stressed for all parties to help those in Palestine in all aspects, especially prayers, donations, and spreading awareness to others.

This isn't the first time someone has urged for the cancellation of the band's concert in Malaysia

In May 2023, PAS central working committee member Nasrudin Hassan questioned whether the government wanted to spread hedonism and deviant cultures in Malaysia by allowing the band to perform a live concert.
