MCMC To Take Action After Minister Sees Coldplay Ticket Being Resold For RM43,200
"The government takes this 'ulat tiket' (ticket touts) issue seriously," said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has promised that action will be taken against Coldplay concert ticket resale advertisements on social media
According to Bernama, he said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been instructed to take the postings down to prevent fraudulent activity.
"If detected, we will bring (scammers) to court and if the (ticket sales) are still on the platform, appropriate action will be taken," he said today, 18 May.
However, he added that the underlying issue of the reselling of concert tickets at higher prices, or ticket scalping, will have to be dealt with by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN)
Fahmi said he will bring the issue up with its minister, Salahuddin Ayub.
"This is excessive. The ticket issue is under [the purview of] KPDN. Insyaallah, I'll bring it up with Salahuddin," he tweeted yesterday night, 17 May, after seeing news of a Coldplay concert ticket reportedly being resold for RM43,200.
Fahmi has also advised the public to only buy concert tickets from legitimate sources, to avoid being extorted or falling victim to scams
"The government takes this ulat tiket (ticket touts) issue seriously and we have to curb [the issue], and examine what laws and regulations can be used," he said.
"I would like to remind everyone to buy tickets from legitimate sources to avoid being cheated. Make a police report so that action can be taken," he added.
