A woman has died after falling into a 2m-deep drain while hiking in Bukit Mertajam, Penang
According to FMT, the incident occurred yesterday, 17 September, when the 50-year-old victim, identified as Oh Ai Chin from Simpang Ampat, was hiking in Cherok To'kun.
The Bukit Mertajam fire and rescue department received a distress call at around 1pm after the victim fell into the drain.
A team of six firemen, led by operations commander Azmi Zakaria, was deployed to the scene at Jalan Kolam Cherok Tok Kun.

With help of the police, the victim's body was retrieved some 5km away from where she was last seen
Mohd Azmi said the victim's body was handed to the police for the next course of action, reported the New Straits Times.
Over the past few days, Penang has experienced strong winds and waves, resulting in 200 reports of uprooted trees and 70 reports of floods.
Meanwhile, in Kedah, over 800 fire and rescue department personnel have had their leaves frozen due to the ongoing floods.
Its state director and senior assistant fire commissioner Awang Hidzel Awang Bujang said precautionary measures have been taken to prepare for the floods, which are expected to worsen in the coming days, reported Bernama.
