A video of an Indonesian student, seemingly dazed while sitting in a tree in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, recently went viral on social media

In the 23-second clip, the girl, dressed in a worn-down white dress, can be heard yelling hysterically while hugging a tree branch, reported Kosmo.

In an attempt to help the girl, residents of the town can also be heard yelling at her while flashing their torchlights in her direction.

In a subsequent video, two men scale the tree to rescue the student before the video abruptly ends

Apa Habar, an Indonesian news website, reported that the girl's mother claimed that their child had been possessed by spirits three times in the past.

They went on to say that on the day of the incident, the girl's father had been searching for her at around 10pm, but failed to find the student.

The girl's condition has been reported to have returned to normal, and she is now living safely with her parents.

The video drew attention on social media, as netizens expressed both fear and concern in the comment section

One user commented that the girl's scream sounded like the Indonesian mythological and vengeful female spirit, a kuntilanak, or commonly known in Malaysia as pontianak.

"Oh my God, I hope she goes back to normal soon and that everything is fine. Pity her," commented another.

Meanwhile, one user who is a disbeliever speculated that she might have been in that situation due to psychological stress.

"Why is it that we don't hear about these cases overseas?" they asked.
