[VIDEO] Hotel Guests Stranded After Their Rooms Were Given Away To 'VIP' Hosting A Wedding
After the TikTok videos went viral with the allegations, netizens have flooded the hotel's Facebook page and Google Reviews with one-star ratings.
Guests were left stranded after their rooms were said to be cancelled because they were sold to a very important person's (VIP) son's wedding guests
Recently, two videos went viral on TikTok for showing angry guests, after they were notified that their bookings were cancelled upon arrival at Royale Chulan Hotel in George Town, Penang.
The sudden cancellation left them confused as they were not given any notification. Based on the videos, when they checked their bookings, which they made through websites such as Booking.com and Agoda, there were no such cancellations.
According to one of the TikTok videos, the guests later find out that a VIP's son was hosting his wedding at the hotel and the rooms that they had pre-booked were sold to his wedding guests.
This enraged the stranded guests as they felt they were being scammed by the hotel because they had already paid for the room prior to their arrival
Sizuka, one of the TikTok users whose video went viral, said that she called the hotel before going and the hotel told her to come, without mentioning anything about her reservation being cancelled.
She added in a comment that more than 10 families, which also involved infants and senior citizens, were affected by the incident.

They were also described as rude and unhelpful. According to Sizuka, all the employees could say to them was, "I don't know," without a single apology to any of those affected.
She added that as of 15 May, Royale Chulan Hotel has yet to compensate the stranded customers nor has it issued an apology.
A video also shows police officers who were called to investigate the situation at the reception surrounded by the angered guests. However, it is not certain whether they were able to provide any assistance to the stranded guests.

In one of the TikTok videos, a customer who was affected mentioned that Agoda did try calling the hotel but no one answered the call.
When the customers requested for proof of cancellation so they could get their refund, the staff did not cooperate with them. This infuriated them as they had to settle the situation themselves without the help of the staff in finding an alternative.
