A 38-year-old businessman was abducted in front of a restaurant in Pandan Indah, Kuala Lumpur by a group of men in a white Toyota Vellfire in broad daylight

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the incident occurred at about 5pm on Thursday, 29 September.

"The victim had gone to a restaurant alone when he was pulled and forced into the white Toyota Vellfire by a group of men who are believed to be locals," he said in a statement today, 30 September.

Incidentally, the police said the victim showed up five hours later at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters, claiming that he had been freed by the kidnappers in Klang

Farouk said the man turned up at about 10.45pm to lodge a police report.

The victim had injuries on his face and legs and later sought treatment at Ampang Hospital.

"The incident is believed to be related to a debt owed to his employer," the police said, adding that they are still tracking down the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abduction with the intent to wrongfully confine someone.

Farouk also thanked the public for their effort in chasing down the abductors, and advised everyone against taking loans from unlicensed parties.
