The Keychron K2 has long been a favourite among custom keyboard enthusiasts, known for its solid build, compact 75% layout, and affordability

But now, Keychron has taken things to a whole new level with the K2 HE (Hall Effect) — a version that keeps everything great about the original while introducing cutting-edge gaming technology.

With Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic switches, rapid trigger functionality, and per-key adjustable actuation points, the K2 HE is no longer just a typist's dream — it's a gaming powerhouse too. Whether you're hammering away at an intense FPS match or typing up a lengthy report, this keyboard promises speed, precision, and versatility.

Let's dive into what makes the K2 HE a potential game-changer.

The star of the show is Keychron's implementation of Hall Effect (HE) technology

The Hall Effect switches are a standout feature, using magnets to register key presses. This makes them smoother and more durable than traditional mechanical switches. They're also quieter, which is great if you're not a fan of that "clak clak" sound.

Unlike traditional mechanical switches that require a physical mechanism to register a press, these magnet switches allow for ultra-fast actuation with adjustable sensitivity down to just 0.2mm.

For gaming, this is a huge advantage, especially when split-second movements can make all the difference. Lower the actuation on your WASD keys to 0.2mm and change direction instantly.

If you want a deeper, more deliberate press for general typing, set it to 3.2mm for a satisfyingly tactile experience.

The K2 HE also introduces multi-actuation points per key, meaning you can assign up to four different actions on a single keypress. Imagine lightly pressing "W" to walk, pressing a bit deeper to run, then crouching and going prone — all without lifting your finger.

It's a level of control that gets some getting used to, but once you do, you won't want to go back to a regular keyboard.

Plus, it's really pretty. Watch the vid below to see what I mean:

Beyond the magnetic switches, the K2 HE is packed with features designed for serious gamers

These include:

  • Rapid Trigger: The keyboard resets instantly when you release a key, allowing for rapid consecutive presses without delay. Excellent for games like Valorant or Apex Legends.
  • Last Key Prioritisation (LKP): LKP allows a second key to register while the first is still pressed, making quick movements much smoother.
  • Long Press Mode: Great for RPGs — press a key once to start walking, press again to stop. No need to hold it down!
  • 1000Hz Polling Rate (Wired + 2.4G): Ensures minimal input lag.

Whether competitive or casual, the K2 HE delivers enough speed for most players.

"It's great. I like it." — My 13yo using the K2 HE to play 'Roblox' lol.

Beyond gaming, the K2 HE remains a great keyboard for typing

The keycaps feel great under the fingers and the smooth actuation of the linear switches makes long typing sessions a breeze.

By tweaking the actuation settings, you can fine-tune the typing feel to match your exact preference.

The K2 HE's 75% layout is ideal for those who want a smaller keyboard without losing essential keys. Its aluminium frame feels solid, and the slight incline provides decent comfort for long typing sessions. However, it lacks an adjustable height option, which might not suit everyone's ergonomic preferences.

The RGB lighting is vibrant and customisable, adding personality to the keyboard. While it's visually appealing, the lighting can be a bit overwhelming for those who prefer a more subtle setup.

The K2 HE offers both wired and wireless options, making it versatile for different setups

Pairing it with multiple devices via Bluetooth is straightforward, and switching between them is seamless.

Battery life is impressive, lasting up to 240 hours without RGB lighting. With the lights on, it still holds up well, though frequent users might need to recharge every few days.

The Keychron K2 HE is a strong contender for anyone looking for a compact, versatile keyboard

It's great for typing, performs well for casual and competitive gaming, and offers excellent build quality.

Highlights:

  • Magnetic switches for ultra-fast response times
  • Adjustable actuation for a personalised feel
  • Pro-level gaming features (Rapid Trigger, LKP, multiple actuation points)
  • Premium build quality and stunning design
  • Strong battery life and flexible connectivity

As for downsides (and I'm really nitpicking here), the K2 HE is pretty pricey at RM589, there aren't dedicated media keys, and the height is non-adjustable.
