Introduced to the public as emo-1, the car is an electric hatchback based on a 2021 Myvi. This conversion project features a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor that delivers 68PS and 220Nm of torque. Pretty impressive for a hatchback.

Perodua president and chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, stated that the electric vehicle (EV) prototype consists of three main components: the power bench, the power converter, and the overall frame design, all of which were made in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the development of power conversion technology was carried out in collaboration with an Australia-based company.

The most exciting aspect of this concept car is the promise of affordability that it offers

Production is set to commence sometime next year, with the emo-1 expected to be priced between RM50,000 and RM100,000, according to Perodua. The automaker also mentioned that there will be a new mechanism in place to ensure better resale value for Perodua EVs.

This car marks a step forward for the electrification of vehicles in the country

The company says the emo-1 project started in September 2022. However, construction only began nine months ago and was completed with assistance from an Australian partner. This conversion is just the beginning, with plans to reveal an updated concept later this year, likely at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show.
