The focus this time around is on its larger cover screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 is the long awaited successor to the Galaxy Z Flip4, but how does it hold up?

We recently got to try it out, and here are a few initial thoughts:

The wider cover screen on the Galaxy Z Flip5 is definitely a highlight compared to its predecessor

Aside from looking visually aesthetic, the cover display, a.k.a. the Flex Window, on the Galaxy Z Flip5 provides a quick glance at essential information such as time, date, battery status, and notifications without needing to open the phone.

Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 also sports a 3.4-inch AMOLED display and a resolution of 720x748 pixels with a 144Hz refresh rate. This is an upgrade from its predecessor's smaller 1.9-inch cover display.

Plus, the cover display looks sleek, and its compact design suits users who value style and functionality.

Bonus point — you can even use the Flex Window to snap quick selfies whenever you feel like it.

Secondly, it's all about the widgets on this flip phone

To add a layer of convenience and versatility to your smartphone experience, Samsung has taken it up a notch with their widget implementation on the Galaxy Z Flip5.

From switching between different watch faces, typing on a full keyboard, to even accessing Google apps like Messages and Maps, the cover image display widgets have been refined to a tee.

This feature feels very intuitive and useful especially if you're in a situation where you just wanna look over your phone's notifications without interacting with it.

Here's a sneak peek of how you can navigate the widgets on the Flex Window:

Like the Galaxy Z Fold5, the Galaxy Z Flip5 also comes with an improved Flex Hinge that lets you fold the device without any noticeable crease in between

Besides the cosmetic improvement, the implementation of the Flex Hinge may also improve the durability of the device because less components are being used.

You wouldn't need to worry about performance issues as the Galaxy Z Flip5 packs the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset

This is the same processor used for their flagship Galaxy S23 Series which was released earlier this year.

Operating the Galaxy Z Flip5 has been smooth so far, with apps feeling snappy and running with no noticeable issues.

In terms of battery life, the Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with the same 3,700mAh battery, but it is better optimised thanks to the improved chipset. Even after a heavy usage of seven to eight hours straight, the battery life was still at a commendable 20%.

Lastly, in familiar Samsung fashion, the pictures we took using the Galaxy Z Flip5 looked vibrant and popped

The dual-camera setup on the Galaxy Z Flip5 packs the same 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP main camera as its predecessor.
