A 19-year-old female student was found dead in a rented house in Kuantan early Tuesday morning, 6 October, after her boyfriend allegedly strangled her
Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said police received a MERS 999 emergency call around 4.32am from the boy, who reported that he had been involved in a fight with his girlfriend.
Police were immediately dispatched to the rented house along Jalan Air Putih 2.
Upon arrival, officers found the 19-year-old victim lying unconscious on a bed inside a rented room on the ground floor.
A forensic examination by specialists from Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) found pressure marks around the victim's neck, after which she was pronounced dead.
Ashari said initial investigations indicated that the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the couple.
The boyfriend was arrested at the scene to assist with investigations.
The victim's body was subsequently sent to the HTAA Forensics Department for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

The victim and the male suspect are both students at Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS)
They were renting the house together with two other female students.
According to China Press, a female vendor near the house said the group of students would usually travel together, including taking Grab rides to school and going out for meals.
She also said she had seen the victim and her boyfriend walking home together the afternoon before the incident, laughing and chatting. The vendor reportedly said she had never personally seen the couple engage in heated arguments or serious disputes.
However, she claimed other residents had described the boyfriend as particularly jealous and said he would become upset when Alisha spoke to other people. The vendor also said the couple had occasionally argued, but that she was not aware of any previous physical abuse.
These details about the couple's relationship have not been confirmed by police.
The housemates reportedly tried to stop the argument
China Press also reported that a loud argument between the couple was heard inside the house in the early hours of Tuesday. The noise reportedly prompted the two other female housemates to knock on the door in an attempt to stop the quarrel.
It is unclear from the police statement what happened inside the room before the emergency call was made. Police said their investigation is ongoing, with officers recording statements from witnesses and awaiting forensic reports.

The suspect has since been remanded for seven days
The suspect was brought before the Kuantan Magistrate's Court earlier today and was remanded for seven days, until 12 October.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Ashari urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident, warning that this could hamper the investigation. He also urged anyone with information about the case to come forward and assist police.
