South Korea Wants To Rival Hollywood By Building Its Own Entertainment City By 2035
Korea's very own Tinseltown.
South Korea has announced plans build an entertainment hub by 2035 to support film and content production, similar to Hollywood in the US
In recent years, South Korea has emerged as a global entertainment powerhouse, producing K-pop icons like BTS, BLACKPINK, as well as groundbreaking films and television series such as Parasite and Squid Game.
However, despite its immense cultural influence, South Korea currently lacks an entertainment destination that rivals the global recognition of Hollywood.
This new entertainment city aims to draw fans of Korean pop culture. According to Bloomberg, South Korea seeks to attract over 30 million foreign tourists annually and leverage the Korean Wave to achieve this goal.
The South Korean government has yet to unveil the name or location of this new entertainment hub
Spanning 3.3 sq km, the hub will feature state-of-the-art content production facilities and schools specialising in entertainment to train the next generation of talent.
Full-scale replicas of Joseon Dynasty-era palaces will be constructed to serve as both filming locations and tourist attractions.
