[VIDEO] Malaysian Band Comes Up With Creative Way To Help Those Affected By COVID-19
Indie pop band, RESORT, shares that they want to help underprivileged families and those who've lost their jobs.
Meet RESORT, a Malaysian three-piece band who is using their talent to help those struggling during this time
After reading the news and hearing from fans about how many of them were retrenched or had their salaries reduced, the trio shares that they wanted to do something to help.
The indie pop band made up of Ho Sek Hao (lead vocalist), Kyle Emmanuel (drummer/backing vocalist), and Victor Yee (bassist/backing vocalist) just released a song titled I Wish Someone Would, that encapsulates the perspective of those most affected by the crisis right now.
Kyle and Ho are full-time musicians and music producers who rely mostly on teaching and projects
"With the economy going down, it was expected that students and parents would pull themselves out and that projects had to be held off," the band explains to SAYS.
"Lucky for us, we live with our families and we're still okay but wondered what about the people who don't have that privilege? [We] decided to write this song hoping to raise some awareness and do our part to help."
But it isn't just about awareness.
RESORT's new music video is attached to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that are helping the less fortunate and those most affected by the crisis.
NGOs which are linked to the song for listeners to send in donations to are:
- Yellow House KL, which helps underprivileged families during this time,
- Food Aid Foundation, a food bank that rescues surplus food and distributes it to those in need, and
- Bread for Breakfast-COVID 19, a social enterprise that trains single mothers and vulnerable women from the low-income community to generate income from baking bread, which is then distributed to those in need.
"We're hoping for more people to be aware of this and collectively give what we can afford to the affected parts of the community," the band, who have donated to the causes themselves, shares.
