Malaysians are jokingly criticising our own country after a fitness entrepreneur listed six great reasons to move here

In an X post over the weekend, personal trainer Alexander Cortes recommended Malaysia to Europeans and Americans in an X post, saying it was a great place for those who liked tropical places to visit, retire, or even buy a vacation home.

He listed six observations about the country in the post, stating:

"Malaysians overall speak far better English than practically any other Asian country you could visit, it's the lingua franca here.

"Tourists don't get ripped off with big markups; you will pay the same as locals. The attitude of 'rip off the foreigner for everything they've got' doesn't seem to exist here.

"It is a super safe place with high social trust, and everything runs well.

"There is a strong family culture, with kids and parks everywhere.

"The food is S-tier and on par with New York City.

"Healthcare is cheap and accessible if you need it, and doctors and staff all speak English."

In an Instagram post late last month, Cortes mentioned that he and his family are currently in Malaysia to work on his fertility startup.

At the time of writing, the post has garnered over 8.2 million views, with some Malaysians dissing our own country in jest to dissuade Cortes from moving here

"As a Malaysian, these are all fakes. We speak little English. We sometaims spellt wrong. Plis go Singapore (sic)," a person joked.

"This is not true. We, Malaysians, are not nice. We are so arrogant. Our food is also not nice. No! Don't come here go to Singapore instead," said a netizen.

"You cannot drink from tap water. Go retire elsewhere," wrote an X user, while another added, "I think Singapore is much better. Cleaner environment, good [currency], and the food is delicious and cheap. Definitely the best country."

One netizen said, "Malaysia is super conservative. You cannot drink alcohol here and sunbathe at the beach. You can go to Bali or Singapore if you want to do those activities."

"Singapore is better. They speak better English. They also don't rip off people. Better infrastructure. And they are also cleaner. I think it's a better fit for y'all. I had neighbours from the UK. They returned to the UK after four years of trying. It wasn't a great fit. They already bought a house and all," commented another person.

Jokes aside, many people agreed with Cortes' observations, praising the country for its uniqueness

"Malaysia = best kept secret. Best place in the world minus the local politics!" read a reply.

"Agree with everything stated here. Disclaimer: I am a Malaysian," read a reply.

"I did not expect this. I’m reading this [while] sitting in Kuala Lumpur. Thank you for the kind words," a netizen wrote, while another pointed out a correction, saying, "You are wrong, The food is 10 times better than New York City."
