Monk Looks Like Shin-Chan With DIY Black Tape Eyebrows To Beat Facial Recognition Fail
Who knew eyebrows could make such a difference?
A Thai monk found himself in a 'sticky' situation when a facial recognition fail system failed to identify him due to his lack of eyebrows
The monk was attempting to use his state welfare card at a grocery store in Khon Kaen, Thailand to purchase items for religious purposes.
However, the store's facial recognition system repeatedly failed to recognise his face, stating that it didn't match the photo registered with his welfare card, reported Thaiger.
The store vendor noticed that the scanning system could not detect the monk's eyes properly and decided to get creative.
With help from a kind customer, they cut pieces of black electrical tape and stuck them to his brow bone to create makeshift eyebrows
Without much protest, the monk embraced his new look, resembling the popular cartoon character Shin-chan. Then, he calmly faced the scanner and hilariously (and amazingly), it worked!
The transaction was successful.
The vendor and the monk burst into laughter, with the vendor even holding up a small mirror so the monk could see the results of their impromptu handiwork.
The incident, captured on CCTV on 1 December, was shared on Facebook and has gone viral on social media, even making headlines on local news stations in Thailand.
According to Khaosod English, the vendor explained that the 45-year-old monk was a regular customer at her store before his ordination.
"After multiple failed scan attempts, I considered asking him to return to the temple and try again later. Instead, we tried applying black electrical tape as makeshift eyebrows, similar to Shin-chan's style," she said.
