Maybank Branch In Sabah Becomes Unexpected Viral Photo Spot For Chinese Tourists
They look good, 'nuff said.
A Maybank branch in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah has unexpectedly become a very popular photo spot among Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia
The trend is especially observed on Chinese social media platform, Xiaohongshu.
A quick search shows many young and fashionable tourists posing with the Maybank branch situated on Gaya Street, with the hashtags #KotaKinabalu and #OOTD in their posts.
While many locals are baffled by the trend of tourists wanting to pose with the ubiquitous bank, it's clear that they just love exploring the city
The photos posted are mostly part of series of shots taken by the tourists while they explore Gaya Street, a popular pedestrian-friendly part of town in Kota Kinabalu.
Giving travel advice to their followers, many tourists mention that they love this "Kota Kinabalu city walk", as well as the many large signboards and colourful buildings in the area, which make great spots for street photography.
The Maybank branch, which according to the New Straits Times, has ceased operations, makes the ideal backdrop for a cool photo.
Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said he fully supports the trend
"Although I don't understand it, seeing our hometown becoming so popular among tourists reflects that Kota Kinabalu is rich with tourist resources.
"Welcome to KK, everyone!" he wrote on Facebook, while posting photos of himself posing at the popular spot.
