The first day of school can be nerve-racking for many kids.

To help them cope with first day jitters, a group of teachers at a primary school in Penang welcomed their students by putting on fun costumes.

According to The Star, on 2 January, dedicated educators at SK Seri Relau in Bayan Lepas greeted new and returning students in vibrant outfits.

The school administration organised this special programme dubbed 'Animation Attack 2020' to make students feel at ease as they enter a new school year.

A few teachers showed up as famous Disney princesses, such as Snow White and Anna of Arendelle from the movie 'Frozen'

Meanwhile, others dressed up as famous characters such as Daisy Duck, Hello Kitty, and Mario and Yoshi from Super Mario Bros.

Headmistress Norsilawati Ishak told The Star that she thought it would be nice to entertain the pupils. They usually need a bit of a pick-me-up because school can be slightly overwhelming for them, especially for those in the special needs class.

She said, "This way, they know we are friendly and they have a good laugh too. It encourages the children to let their creative juices flow as they will feel comfortable expressing themselves."

Students were also invited to sing and dance along with the teachers to jingles, such as Baby Shark by Pinkfong

According to a Facebook post by Noor Aliza Che Mat, members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and officers from the Barat Daya District Education Office (PPDBD) were also present yesterday.

She wrote, "First day of school. The teachers of SK Seri Relau are so sporting for putting on costumes to greet the children. PDRM and PPDBD officers also joined in on the celebration. The children were so excited to see the teachers put on performances. Well done, headmistress, administration, teachers, as well as all staff memebers of SK Seri Relau who are always so committed and dedicated."
