Nasi lemak is arguably the quintessential Malaysian dish, delighting palates with its signature spicy sambal, aromatic coconut rice, and classic garnishes.

If you can't get enough of this beloved Malaysian staple, a new local tabletop game aims to showcase the national dish by providing a flavourful and immersive gameplay experience.

Players will be captivated by the game's stunning visuals that showcase the cultural diversity and beauty of Malaysia.

Nasi lemak is best enjoyed with family and friends, and the same can be said about Nasi Lemak The Game, a set-building game that will leave you as satisfied as eating a pack of your favorite nasi lemak.

The aim of the game is simple: as the owner of a nasi lemak stall, your task is to produce five packets of nasi lemak before your friends — your rival owners — complete theirs.

To bungkus a pack of nasi lemak, gather five necessary ingredients — from coconut rice and sambal to peanuts and anchovies — which are available in your starting hand and the draw pile.

You're also encouraged to trade ingredients with your opponents, allowing you to gather the cards you need to win the game. But be wary: a successful trade also advances your opponents' game plan.

Players engage in thrilling gameplay as they collect the necessary ingredients and race against opponents to claim Nasi Lemak cards.

Of course, no card game would be complete without some shenanigans that allow you to steal ingredients from your opponents or place a fly on their nasi lemak, rendering their food inedible.

These action cards offer dynamic gameplay, where players must tactically decide when to use them, strategically manoeuvring their opponents' progress while safeguarding their own nasi lemak sets.

The Fan action card allows you to redirect the flies to another player, introducing playful interactions and unexpected twists.

Nasi Lemak The Game was developed by the Faculty of Fun, a Kuala Lumpur-based tabletop game development company founded by Amarveen Malairaja, Logan Ghanesh, Ravin Shunmugarajan, and Nyanavelan Sivapalan.

"We are excited to introduce the range of action cards in Nasi Lemak The Game. These cards add an extra layer of strategy and excitement to the gameplay, allowing players to make clever moves, protect their progress, and challenge their opponents. We can't wait to see the creative and competitive ways players utilise these action cards," they said.

We can already see this game becoming a hit among Malaysians during casual weekend gatherings and the holiday season

Suitable for everyone aged seven and above, Nasi Lemak The Game can be played by two people, but we highly recommend playing with groups of five. Each session typically lasts between 15 and 30 minutes, but we assure you that you'll find yourselves playing multiple rounds to emerge as the ultimate nasi lemak seller!

The Rendang Expansion pack is also available, featuring new wildcards and characters like crows and Si Oyens to add another layer of excitement once you're familiar with the base game.

If this sounds like a fun time, Nasi Lemak The Game and its expansion pack are available on the Faculty of Fun's Shopee store and select platforms and retailers across Malaysia.
