A video of a Malay singer approaching a piano busker and asking to perform a Chinese song with him has gone viral on social media

Piano busker Winson uploaded the video to Xiaohongshu on Sunday, 20 October, showing Afiqasy Raaf asking him if he could perform a song with him while busking at the Bukit Bintang MRT station.

"Can I sing?" Afiqasy, a budding singer and a fellow busker, asked in Bahasa Melayu, to which Winson replied, "What song do you want to sing?"

"I want to sing A Little Happiness," Afiqasy answered in Mandarin, referring to a popular song by Taiwanese singer Hebe.

Winson expressed surprise at Afiqasy's ability to speak Mandarin and his request for a Mandarin song.

Afiqasy started singing after the interaction, with Winson playing the song on his piano

Speaking to SAYS, Winson said the wholesome moment with Afiqasy took place last Friday, 18 October.

"Afiqasy knows a little bit of Mandarin because he has been taking classes. He didn't come from a Chinese school," he said when contacted.

Winson also shared that Afiqasy loves Mandarin songs, which inspired him to learn the language.

At the time of writing, the video has garnered over 5,000 likes on Xiaohongshu, with hundreds of netizens applauding the unexpected joint performance

"I felt this Malay boy's love for Chinese songs. I could see that he was excited and happy," read a top comment.

"This is so touching. This is the true beauty of Malaysia," commented a netizen.

"At first, I thought he wanted to sing Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies, but I didn't expect he would sing A Little Happiness," another person added, referring to a Cantonese song by Hong Kong rock band Beyond, which is popular among non-Chinese speakers.

Winson replied to the comment, saying, "That's true! Most Malay singers only sing Beyond's songs, but he said he likes JJ Lin, Jay Chou, and many more."
