MyKad printing services nationwide are expected to face disruption from 1 to 7 September as the National Registration Department (JPN) transitions from the existing MyKad structure to a new-generation identity card
JPN announced the disruption in a statement today, 1 September, advising people who do not urgently need to replace or renew their MyKad to postpone their transactions during this period.
Parents and guardians applying for a first MyKad for children who have reached the age of 12 are also being advised to hold off on their applications for now.
JPN said waiting would allow these children to receive the new-generation MyKad once it becomes available.
This means parents whose children are turning 12 during the transition period may want to delay their first MyKad application rather than proceed with the existing card.
JPN did not specify in the statement when production of the new-generation MyKad will begin or when applications for the new cards will open.
The department said it appreciated the public's patience and cooperation throughout the transition
"The department apologises for any inconvenience caused in connection with this matter," the statement read.
