This eye-catching piece is the work of artist Iván Argote, who first submitted the proposal for this feathered giant back in 2020.

The project has certainly stirred emotions, with The New York Times reporting that the public's reaction to Argote's proposal was deeply divided, evoking either strong affection or disgust.

Starting this October, the hyper-realistic aluminium pigeon will perch on the High Line for an 18-month display

As reported by CNN, Cecilia Alemani, the director and chief curator of High Line Art, praised Argote's work, saying, "Iván has a charming ability as an artist to take something familiar and make us consider it anew in profound ways. His sculpture for the High Line Plinth adds a critical yet funny perspective to the ongoing dialogue of public art."

But why the name Dinosaur... for a pigeon?

Argote explained that the name "serves as a reference to the dinosaurs' extinction".

"Like them, one day we won't be around anymore, but perhaps a remnant of humanity will live on — as pigeons do," he said in a statement.
