5 Things You Should Know When Renting A Nyonya Kebaya In Melaka
Walk around like you're a 'tai tai' for a day!
1. Most of the Nyonya kebaya rental shops are around Jonker Walk
Ideal for tourists, most Nyonya kebaya shops for rent or for sale are situated in the UNESCO World Heritage City's Chinatown.
The streets are filled with historical houses dating back to the 17th century, and renting a kebaya is a great way to immerse yourself as you stroll the historic streets of Melaka.
SAYS spoke to one of the shops, Kebaya Nyonya Melaka, for more information about the experience of renting a kebaya for a day.
2. The standard price is RM48 to rent a kebaya for three hours
Kebaya Nyonya Melaka told SAYS that most of the shops around the area provide the same Nyonya kebaya rental packages.
The basic package includes the rental of the costume, an inner vest, an umbrella, a fan, and some decorative ornaments and earrings.
For additional hairstyling and hair accessories, there is an extra cost of RM35.
3. The shops have clothes that cater to all ages, sizes, and genders
The styling experts have kebayas of sizes from XS to 5XL, matching batik shirts for men, and they even have smaller sets for children!
So, whether you are coming with your family, parents, best friends, or partner, everyone can dress up and join in the fun.

4. It takes about 30 to 45 minutes to get dressed up at the store
All women know the best part of dressing up is getting ready for it! Whether you'd prefer to choose your own kebaya designs and colours, or leave it to the stylists, you'll be guided along the way.
It would be recommended to come in the morning to beat the heat, as well as to get dolled up and have the widest selection of kebaya colours for the day.
5. Visit the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum to step back in time
While it is fun to just walk around downtown and just take photos around the many temples in the area, be sure to visit the Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum.
With its opulent furniture and architecture, you can waltz around and pretend to be the wealthy tai tai (married woman) of a beautifully-preserved Peranakan mansion from the late 19th century.
