Sunway has released a Chinese New Year short film titled Thriving in Shared Prosperity and Wisdom and it is all about the gift of sharing <3

The story is about the lives of two young girls, Shenn and Irene, both with different family backgrounds. Their everyday routines are chronicled side by side, displaying the social disparity that the girls and their families face.

However, despite their differences, it doesn't stop them from becoming the best of friends through their common interests, learning from each other, and most importantly, sharing knowledge with each other.

The film features beautifully drawn characters along with well-illustrated landscapes of Malaysian life as we know it :D

It also features Sunway’s origami ornaments that come with their exclusive New Year red packets. Origami, a traditional art of folding paper, enhances children’s learning skills and supports their mental concentration. Have you spotted the cute origami in the video? Here it is!

Sunway’s New Year red packets themselves are made out of eco-friendly paper, which is part of Sunway's initiative in doing their part for the planet. Their design carries the same theme as the video, signifying the double blessings of prosperity and wisdom.

These origami ornaments are super easy to make from the red packets. Check out the step by step process below!

The whole concept of this short film is inspired by the real-life story of Chow Shenn Kuan, a highly successful individual who is a recipient of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation Special Scholarship

As portrayed in the 3-minute animated video, Shenn comes from humble beginnings and through sheer hard work and determination, she has become extremely successful in her endeavours. Shenn has expressed that she does not want other children to experience a lack of exposure or know-how in reaching their full potential.

"Ergo, I have pledged to support other underprivileged, underserved, and underrepresented students out there,” said Shenn.

As part of Shenn's ambition to contribute to the betterment of society, she donates to the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation (JCF) monthly, and she has helped students to secure scholarships under Closing The Gap Malaysia.

Currently, she is serving as a Perdana Fellow to YB Senator Dato Sri Tengku Zafrul bin Tengku Abdul Aziz in the Ministry of Finance.

Her story highlights the importance of a good quality education, a sense of hope, and a brighter future for all.

This CNY, Sunway is on a mission to contribute to the nation with quality education and sustainable development

Aside from bringing Shenn's story to life, Thriving in Shared Prosperity and Wisdom also highlights the lack of access of quality education among underserved children from B40 income-group families.

That's why Sunway has pledged to build or refurbish 50 libraries nationwide by 2024 leading up to its 50th anniversary. The initiative, Sunway READ (Reading Enhances and Develops), will greatly benefit students from the B40 communities as well as orphanages.

Through #SunwayforGood CNY Cheer, they are committed to continuously reaching out to the less fortunate by fostering togetherness and inclusiveness among all Malaysians.

Eight children homes in Ipoh will be part of Sunway's festive cheer programmes, namely Precious Gift Orphanage Society, The Salvation Army Boys Home, Vision Home, Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin “Anning”, Pertubuhan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan 1Malaysia Perak, Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim Dan Miskin Nurul Iman, Hannah Home, and New Hope Children’s Home.

Additionally, Sunway's CNY Cheer and Malaysia Red Crescent have joined forces to distribute groceries, laptops, school bags, vitamin C, cookies, hand sanitisers, ang pow, and packed lunches to children belonging in the B40 community :D

All these initiatives by Sunway are carried out to ensure that underserved communities are given the help that they need to have equal opportunities to learn, and also to make quality education accessible to all Malaysians.

Shenn's story of sharing and giving is exactly what we need to spread festive cheer in shared prosperity and wisdom. Kudos to her and Sunway for giving back to society during this auspicious occasion!
