This Thai Restaurant In Penang Has A Stunning Hilltop View Overlooking Paddy Fields & Sea
Came for the view, stayed for the food. <3
Penang is known to many as one of the few food havens in Malaysia
But what if I told you there is a restaurant in Penang that not only serves lip-smacking food, but also offers a hilltop view overlooking the paddy field that is to die for?
Introducing Bukit Genting Hill Leisure Park and Restaurant, located in Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang.
Although it takes about a 45-minute drive from tourist hub George Town, this spot was the highlight of my entire trip despite visiting over 15 char kuey teow stalls and other eateries.
The restaurant has been running for over 20 years and it serves all the Thai delicacies you are familiar with on top of some local dishes that you know and love.
As it was only the two of us, my friend and I could only order three dishes.
And you guessed it, we ordered the three of the most popular Thai dishes: tom yam, deep-fried kangkung, and pineapple fried rice.
The tom yam we tried was so good that we just could not stop sipping on it, even when it was piping hot.
With a hint of sweetness, the spicy-packed tom yam opened up our appetite immediately despite the fact that we just had some char kuey teow an hour earlier.
We thought of coming to this place only to enjoy the view, but we stayed for the food.
On to the deep-fried kangkung. It is a dish that can hardly go wrong. Every strip of the kangkung was evenly fried, without them being too oily.
It was paired divinely with the Thai chilli that came with it, but the adventurous us dipped it in tom yam and ate it together with the pineapple fried rice, creating an orgasmic sensation in our mouths.
Here are some photos of the food served at the restaurant that were shared on Google Maps:
While we were waiting for our food to be served, we wandered around the spacious hilltop restaurant before going to the back of the toilet, where the best view of Penang hides
We loved the rustic display at the restaurant with many unmatching furniture pieces, which you know the owner dotingly added to the space slowly over the years. It also has many potted plants and natural trees on the premises.
As disorganised as it sounds, it creates a very homey and welcoming feeling at the Thai restaurant.
It even has a garden area with statues of animals that is perfect for kids to run around. We were seated on an elevated platform that offered a breathtaking view while we dined.
The hilltop view of the Balik Pulau paddy field is tucked away behind the toilet of the restaurant
The long stretch of greenery looks incredibly calming under the blue sky, which the blue sea meets at the horizon, blurring the lines between the two.
We could sit on the protruding wooden platform and enjoy the unobstructed scenery forever if it were not because of our grumbling stomachs.
Bukit Genting Hill Leisure Park and Restaurant opens daily from 11.30am to 10pm, with a break between 3.30pm and 5pm
Address:
Jalan Teluk Kumbar,
11920 Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang
Look for the sign of the restaurant while you are on Jalan Teluk Kumbar and make the turn once you see it. Driving up the hill could be a challenge for some as the road is winding and narrow.
Some photos found online show a brown paddy field, which means they were taken close to the harvest season, typically in June and December.
