Wanna Avoid Crying Kids When Flying? AirAsia X Has 'Quiet Zones' You Can Book
Fly in peace.
Imagine this: You've boarded the plane, sat in your seat, and are about to fall asleep.
When all of a sudden, you're woken up by a crying child.
AirAsia now offers 'Quiet Zones' on AirAsia X flights; these sections are kid-free, so you can fly in peace
The Quiet Zone promises little to no noise, zero disturbances, and soft ambient lighting. Kids below the age of 10 are not allowed into this zone and meals will be served earlier.
The Quiet Zone is available exclusively on AirAsia X A330 aircrafts that fly to countries such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, and Taiwan, among others.
They are highlighted in purple on the different types of aircrafts where they are available:
You can reserve your preferred seats in the Quiet Zone for a fee when booking your flight, via Purchases, during web check-in, or at the airport check-in counter.
Malaysia Airlines (MAS) also offered a child-free cabin on their double-decker Airbus A380s in the past
In addition, children below 12 were not allowed to fly first class on MAS' A380 or 747 fleet, after the airline received many complaints from first class passengers that they "spend money on first class and can't sleep due to crying infants."
MAS had issued a subsequent statement that unless there was an "overwhelming demand for seats in economy class from families with children and infants, resulting in full load in the main deck, we will still accommodate such demand in the 70-seat upper deck economy class zone of our A380."
A MAS spokesperson told SAYS that the Airbus A380 is no longer in their inventory.
Aside from MAS and AirAsia X, Singapore Airlines' low-cost sister company, Scoot, offers 'Scoot-in-Silence' for travellers who prefer to sit in a quiet, child-free zone.
Located at the front section of Scoot's Boeing 787 Dreamliners, these limited seats have "fewer distractions, wider legroom, and adjustable headrests". Only travellers above the age of 12 can book them.
