If you've been waiting to get Malaysia's newly launched passport, you may not have to wait much longer
After introducing the country's redesigned passport on 30 June, the Immigration Department is rolling it out in stages across its passport-issuing offices nationwide, with all 69 locations expected to offer it by early August.
Available from 1 July at selected offices, the redesigned passport gives Malaysians a choice between the existing five-year validity passport for RM200 or a new 10-year version priced at RM350.
However, if your current passport is still valid, there's no need to replace it immediately. Existing passports remain valid until their expiry date.
Do keep in mind that most countries require your passport to have at least six months' validity before you travel, so it's advisable to renew it once it falls within that window.
Where is the new passport available?
The rollout is taking place in seven phases.
Available now, since 1 July
The new passport can already be applied for at these 14 Immigration offices:
- Immigration Headquarters, Menara Ikhlas, Putrajaya
- Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur
- Kelana Jaya
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
- Melaka
- Seremban
- UTC Puduraya
- UTC Selangor
- UTC Johor Bahru
- UTC Pasir Gudang
- UTC Ipoh
- UTC Kedah
- UTC Sungai Petani
- UTC Seberang Prai
Available from 6 July
Eight more offices will begin offering the new passport:
- Kajang
- Setia Tropika
- Kulai Jaya
- Kulim
- UTC Sentul
- UTC Keramat
- UTC Melaka
- UTC Pulau Pinang (Komtar)
Available from 9 July
Seven additional locations will join the rollout:
- Shaftsbury Putrajaya
- Shah Alam (PKNS)

Malaysians overseas will get it later
For Malaysians living abroad, the new passport will also be introduced in stages at Immigration attaché offices.
From 18 August, applications will open in:
- Jeddah
- Jakarta
- Hong Kong
From 25 August, it will also become available in:
- Singapore
- Melbourne
- London
- New York
Want the 10-year passport? You'll need to walk in
Although the Immigration Department now offers a 10-year passport for the first time, it isn't available through the online renewal system yet.
At the moment, the MyOnline Passport portal only supports applications for the five-year passport.
This means anyone who wants the new 10-year passport will need to visit a passport-issuing Immigration office in person once it becomes available at their nearest branch.
For many travellers, the 10-year passport may also offer better value, costing RM350 compared with RM400 if a five-year passport is renewed twice over the same period.
