In light of the the recent alleged dog abuse case in Kajang, it is crucial to know the steps to take if you witness any form of animal abuse.

Here's a guide on what to do if you notice any animal getting abused in Malaysia:

1. Gather evidence (if it's safe to do so)

Take photos and/or videos of the abuse, making sure it clearly shows the animal and the abuse being inflicted.

Try to capture details like the location and date/time.

Do not intervene directly; it can be dangerous to confront an abuser yourself. Focus on reporting and gathering evidence.

2. Report the abuse

The Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) is the primary authority for handling animal welfare cases.

For urgent matters, you can reach them via their 24-hour WhatsApp hotline at +6013-706 6770.

To report a case, you can also:

When submitting a report, make sure to provide as much information as possible, including:

  • Time, date, and location of the incident
  • Detailed description of the incident
  • Condition of the animal
  • Identity of the abuser (if known)

If available, attach photos and videos as evidence.

4. Be prepared to have to lodge a police report in the case of any animal cruelty, abuse, or neglect

Remember, abuse does not necessarily mean physical harm. An animal is being abused if it is not provided with shade, is chained 24/7, or is housed in a cage 24/7.

By reporting and providing evidence, you can help hold the abuser accountable and protect the animal.
