A distressing video has gone viral, sparking outrage online.

The video shows a boy tying a young poodle's mouth shut before using a lighter to deliberately set the dog on fire.

The dog — engulfed in flame — is seen desperately fleeing in pain, while the perpetrator continues filming its struggle as it frantically rolls on the ground, presumably in an attempt to extinguish the flames.

The dog is eventually overwhelmed and lies motionless, still breathing and on fire.

However, the horrific abuse doesn't end there.

As the fire starts to die out, the dog attempts to stand and move towards a bridge.

The perpetrator, who had been closely following the dog while filming on his phone, kicks it off the bridge.

The video then abruptly ends.

It is not known yet if the dog is still alive.
