The 17-year-old was riding a Yamaha Y110 motorcycle from Taman Merdeka to SMK Tun Mutahir at around 8.05am yesterday, 2 October, when he met with a crash.
According to Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit, the driver of a Nissan X-Trail was making a right turn into a car workshop when the student attempted to overtake on the right.
This manoeuvre led to a collision, causing the motorcyclist to lose control and veer into the opposite lane. A Honda CRZ, coming from the other direction, was unable to stop in time and struck the motorcyclist, dragging him to the left side of the road. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both drivers of the Nissan and Honda escaped unharmed.
Christopher stated that the victim attempted to overtake on the right over solid double white lines, which is prohibited
The body of the victim was taken to Melaka Hospital for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, he urged any witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers the offence of causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, reported Malay Mail.
