A 27-year-old father and 31-year-old stepmother were arrested on Tuesday, 12 September, for allegedly abusing a six-year-old boy in Bahau, Jempul, Negeri Sembilan

According to Majoriti, the boy ran away from home after no longer being able to bear the abuse he faced.

Jempol district police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said that the department received information about the incident at 2.30pm on the same day.

The boy was then rescued and taken to Jempul Hospital for a medical examination.

According to Hoo, the initial investigation revealed that the alleged abuse began in March and persisted until the rescue

“Apart from being physically assaulted by the couple, they also used a cane and a wooden ladle to hit him,” The Star quoted the district police chief as saying.

He also mentioned that the victim was initially brought to Jempol Hospital upon the discovery of the injuries and he was later transferred to Kuala Pilah Hospital for further treatment.

Hoo revealed that among the four siblings in the household, only the victim was subjected to abuse.

According to Hoo, the father, a sawmill worker, and the stepmother, a housewife, have been remanded for a period of seven days for further investigations.

They are now being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 20 years, or both.
