A 60-year-old woman in Penang suffered internal head injuries and has yet to regain consciousness after falling victim to snatch thieves on Saturday, 1 December
New Straits Times reported that the victim was walking to her friend's house at Lorong Lebuh Mahsuri, Bayan around 6.15am when two men on a motorcycle rode past and tried to snatch her handbag.
Although the suspects failed to snatch her bag, the vicious attack caused the victim to lose her balance and fall face-first onto the ground
According to The Star, Balik Pulau OCPD Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said two of the victim's friends witnessed the incident, but were unable to identify the model and registration of the motorcycle as it happened much too quickly and it was still dark at the time of the incident.
The woman has been admitted into the intensive care unit of Penang General Hospital, having suffered internal head injuries from the incident
New Straits Times reported that doctors attending to the victim believe that she may have suffered internal hemorrhage as no external injuries were found on her body.
She is also said to have undergone surgery on her head, but has yet to regain consciousness since the incident.
Police are urging those with information on the incident to come forward to assist with investigations, as no arrests have been made so far
According to The Star, the case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery and voluntarily causing hurt.
