A Buddhist Monk Has Been Arrested For Sexually Assaulting His Students In Segamat
The 54-year-old monk administers six Buddhist temples across Negeri Sembilan and Johor.
A 54-year-old Buddhist monk from Segamat, Johor, was arrested earlier today, 16 January, after two of his students lodged police reports against him for sexual assault
Sin Chew Daily reported that two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, lodged police reports against him on 14 January.
They were students of the man at a Buddhist school located in Segamat.
The monk reportedly asked the teenagers to stay back after classes at the Buddhist school, and performed oral sex on them
According to China Press, the teenagers were assaulted in December 2018 and earlier this month respectively.
The monk, who also allegedly assaulted six other children, administers six Buddhist temples across Negeri Sembilan and Johor.
The Malaysian Buddhist Association has since released a statement regarding the situation
"He (the suspect) has been barred from participating in any activities related to the Association," the statement read.
"He will face disciplinary action from the Elders of the Association once the investigations are over," the Association said.
The monk has been remanded for four days to facilitate investigations
The 54-year-old was brought to the Segamat Magistrate Court today, and will be in remand until 19 January.
