A three-month-old baby was killed in a tragic accident on the North-South Expressway on Sunday, 28 May
A Proton Persona swerved and crashed into a white Perodua Axia during the 1pm incident, causing the driver of the Perodua Axia, Shahril Salleh, to lose control of his vehicle which skidded and crashed into a drain.
The incident happened at KM433.8 northbound near Kuala Kubu Baru.
According to Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent R. Supramaniam, the infant, Aril Rizqin Redza Shahril, is believed to have been thrown out of the car with his mother, Rafnah Mongudancgal, following the crash.
Aril was confirmed dead at Hospital Sungai Buloh while the rest of his family suffered minor injuries. It was reported that Shahril and his wife were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
What happened?
It was revealed that the 27-year-old Proton Persona driver had lodged a police report on the incident, stating that she was driving in the middle lane but panicked when she felt that her car was being "squashed" from the left lane, causing her to switch to the right lane.
The police said that only one police report has been lodged so far by the Proton Persona driver as the Perodua Axia driver was still in the hospital as of yesterday, 29 May.
However, social media was abuzz with a dashcam footage that shows what had happened seconds before the deadly accident:
The dashcam footage shows that the Perodua Axia was on the left lane while the Proton Persona slowly veered towards the left from the middle lane.
Eventually, the Proton Persona nudged and knocked the Perodua Axia off the road and into the drain.
At the same time, the Proton Persona spun across the road and crashed into the road divider before the car came to a halt.
The police have detained the driver of the Proton Persona
Following the circulation of the dashcam footage, the police has detained the driver involved in the accident, a lady who has been identified as S. Nishanty.
The Star Online reported today, 30 May, that S. Nishanty was tested negative for drugs but the police have sent her blood samples to Hospital Sungai Buloh for additional alcohol and drug tests.
