A 98-year-old grandmother from China has shocked many after using a pair of scissors to remove a horn-like growth on her forehead
According to South China Morning Post, the woman from Shanghai, surnamed Gu, had been living with the growth for several years.
During a hospital stay for an unrelated treatment, she reportedly grew so annoyed by it that she decided to remove it herself, without consulting any doctors.
The self-surgery resulted in severe swelling and profuse bleeding from the exposed wound, prompting doctors to place her on the critical list in a life-threatening situation.

These growths are often linked to long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation and other factors.
However, in some parts of China, they are viewed through a superstitious lens as a folk symbol of longevity.

"The procedure relied on stitches and compression. There were some challenges during the operation and a bit of bleeding, but fortunately, the entire team was highly skilled," Dr Nie said, adding that the wound is healing well.

Gu's family has since expressed their deep gratitude to the medical team for their swift and attentive care.
