How much would you need to pay to release your car? Car owners will have to pay RM50 in person, within the first 4 hours from when the car was clamped.

If you fail to do so, you’d have to pay another RM100 to release your car if it has already been towed away.

"This implementation is based on studies and scrutiny by DBKL’s Pemudah which found the irresponsible attitude of users who parked their cars illegally to be one of the main causes of traffic congestion," KL Mayor Datuk Seri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz said to Bernama.

Pasukan Petugas Khas Pemudahcara Perniagaan (PEMUDAH) is a task force that aims to facilitate business and address bureaucracy business-government dealings.

Here are the roads in KL that will fall under DBKL’s new clamping regulations:

Jalan Masjid India
- Jalan Tun Sambanthan in Brickfields
- Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz
- Jalan Bulan
- Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang
- Jalan Chow Kit
- Jalan Kenanga
- Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman
- Jalan Solaris Mont Kiara
- Jalan Klang Lama

Over the past seven months since January this year, DBKL has issued a whopping 746,185 compound fines according to the mayor of KL

Of that figure, over 30% were on cars that had no parking tickets, while another 4,857 vehicles were towed away for parking offences.

The KL mayor previously said DBKL has to take serious action as some 50,000 new cars are registered in Kuala Lumpur every month, clogging up the roads and causing gridlock in the city, especially within the central business districts and popular hangout spots like Bukit Bintang, Bukit Damansara, Sri Hartamas, Desa Hartamas, Solaris Mont Kiara, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Bangsar.

The new regulation is enforceable under the Road Transport Act 1987 and Road Transport Order (Provision on Car Parks) Federal Territories 2016.
